vSmart Controller Responsibilities

In the Cisco SD-WAN solution, vSmart controller is responsible for the following two actions:

A. Authenticate and authorize vEdge routers:

vSmart controller is responsible for authenticating and authorizing vEdge routers in the SD-WAN network. This is done by verifying the identity of the vEdge routers and granting them access to the network based on their credentials. Once the vEdge routers are authenticated and authorized, they can communicate with other vEdge routers and the vSmart controller.

C. Distribute route and policy information via OMP:

vSmart controller is responsible for distributing route and policy information to the vEdge routers using the Overlay Management Protocol (OMP). OMP is a control plane protocol used in the SD-WAN network to exchange routing and policy information between the vSmart controller and vEdge routers. vSmart controller distributes the routes and policies to the vEdge routers, which use this information to forward the traffic in the SD-WAN network.

The other options, B, D, and E, are not the responsibilities of the vSmart controller in the Cisco SD-WAN solution.

B. Configure and monitor vEdge routers: This is the responsibility of the vManage controller in the SD-WAN network. vManage is responsible for configuring and monitoring the vEdge routers.

D. Distribute the IP address from DHCP server to vEdge routers: This is the responsibility of the vBond orchestrator in the SD-WAN network. vBond is responsible for managing the control plane connectivity and distributing IP addresses from the DHCP server to the vEdge routers.

E. Distribute crypto key information among vEdge routers: This is the responsibility of the vManage controller in the SD-WAN network. vManage is responsible for distributing the crypto key information among the vEdge routers in the SD-WAN network.
