Services to Stop for Changing IM & Presence Service Default Domain Setting

Change the Domain Value - Follow this procedure if you want to change the domain value (from one valid domain value to another valid IP proxy domain value)

This procedure is applicable if you have a DNS or non-DNS deployment.

Procedure - Stop the Cisco SIP Proxy, Presence Engine and XCP Router services on IM and Presence on all nodes in your cluster.

Step 1 -

On the publisher node, perform the following steps to configure the new domain value: Step 2 -

Select IM and Presence Administration > System > Cluster Topology.

a.

In the right pane, select Settings.

b.

Configure the Domain Name value with the new domain.

c.

Select IM and Presence Administration > System > Service Parameters, and select the Cisco SIP Proxy service.

a.

Configure the Federation Routing IM and Presence FQDN with the new domain.

b.

You will be prompted to confirm these configuration changes.

Select OK for both prompts, and then select Save.

c.

On all nodes in the cluster, use this CLI command to set the new domain: Step 3 -

This CLI command invokes a reboot of the servers.

On all nodes in the cluster, manually start the Cisco Presence Engine and Cisco XCP Router services after the reboot is complete (if required)

Step 4 -

Manually regenerate all certificates on each node in the cluster.

To change the IM & Presence service default domain setting of DOMAIN.NOT.SET, the following three services must be stopped:

A. Cisco XCP Router B. Cisco Intercluster Sync Agent C. Cisco XCP Authentication Service

Here's why:

1. Cisco XCP Router: The Cisco XCP Router service is responsible for routing XMPP messages between servers in a Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence deployment. It is also responsible for handling the delivery of presence updates and notifications. This service must be stopped because it can cause disruption in the message routing process when the IM & Presence service domain is changed.

2. Cisco Intercluster Sync Agent: The Cisco Intercluster Sync Agent service is responsible for maintaining user and group information across multiple IM & Presence clusters. It must be stopped to avoid any potential data inconsistencies that may occur when the default domain setting is changed.

3. Cisco XCP Authentication Service: The Cisco XCP Authentication Service is responsible for authenticating users and devices in a Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence deployment. It must be stopped to prevent any potential authentication issues that may arise when the default domain setting is changed.

The other three services ( Cisco SIP Proxy, Cisco Presence Engine, and Cisco AXL Web service) are not directly related to the IM & Presence service default domain setting, and therefore, do not need to be stopped for this change to take effect.

Note that stopping these services will cause a brief interruption in the IM & Presence service, so it's recommended to schedule this change during a maintenance window. After the services have been stopped, the default domain setting can be changed through the Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM & Presence Administration interface.
