You can add or embed Power Apps apps into Microsoft Teams.

There are two ways to embed an app: as a tab app or a personal app.

Both types of apps, model-driven and canvas, can be added to the Teams as a tab app.

But only the canvas app can be embedded as a Teams (personal) app.

To make a Teams app from a canvas app, you need to export your canvas app in a zip file using the "Add to Teams" function in the Power Apps portal.

Then you can upload the zip file to Teams by clicking on the "Upload a custom app" button on the left bottom of the Teams App panel.

If you don't see this item, you need to ask the Teams administrator to create a new Custom app policy and enable the “Upload custom apps” option.

Admin can do both these steps in Microsoft Teams admin center under Teams Apps/Setup policies section.

Admin needs to create a new app setup policy (Number 1) and allow the custom apps upload (Number 2)

The Upload of custom apps is also called “side loading.” This approach helps users to run the Teams apps without uploading to the Teams app store.

To upload a custom app in Microsoft Teams, the Teams administrator needs to take the following two steps:

  1. Add App Studio to Teams: App Studio is a tool used for creating and managing custom apps in Teams. To add App Studio, the Teams administrator should follow these steps:
  • In Teams, click on the ellipsis (...) icon on the left-hand navigation menu and select "Apps" from the list of options.
  • Click on the "App Studio" option, which should be located near the bottom of the screen.
  • If App Studio is not yet installed, click the "Install" button to install it.
  1. Enable Upload custom apps: By default, Microsoft Teams does not allow users to upload custom apps. To enable this feature, the Teams administrator should follow these steps:
  • In Teams, click on the ellipsis (...) icon on the left-hand navigation menu and select "Admin" from the list of options.
  • Click on the "Teams apps" tab.
  • Under "App setup policies," select the policy that applies to the users who will be uploading the custom app.
  • Under "Custom apps," toggle the switch to enable "Allow side loading of external apps."

Once these steps are completed, you should see the "Upload a custom app" option on the Teams Apps screen, which will allow you to upload your zip file and create your custom app in Teams. The other options (C and D) are not relevant to this specific issue, and option E (adding Power Apps to Teams) is not necessary to upload a canvas app as a custom app in Teams.
